Chris Rock Jokes About Getting Beaten By Will Smith At Recent Atlanta Show – Deadline

On Chris Rock’s latest comedy show, he jokes about the “slap being heard around the world.” You know, that was when he got a punch from Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars.

According to, the show took place at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.

“Everyone’s trying to be a victim,” Rock said. “If everyone claims to be a victim, then no one will hear the real victims. Even I was beaten by Suge Smith… I went to work the next day, I had children.’ For reference, the “Suge Smith” joke is about Suge Knight, the founder and former CEO of the West Coast label Death Row Record. Knight has a long reputation for aggressive behavior.

Although Smith offered a video apology for hitting Rock, the comedian and former Oscar host did not respond to what Smith said. Deadline reported on July 29 that the actor finally broke his silence about his actions and how it affected not only Chris Rock but also his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

“At that point I was fed up. It’s all vague. I contacted Chris and the message that came back is that he is not ready to talk. When he is, he will reach out. I’ll tell you, Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you want to talk,” Smith said.

He continued: “I want to apologize to Chris’s mother. I saw an interview [she] did, and that was one of the things I just didn’t realize. I didn’t think, but how many people were injured at that time. I want to apologize to Chris’s mother, I want to apologize to Chris’ family, especially Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my husband. This is probably irreparable. I’ve spent the past three months repeating and understanding the nuance and complexity of what was happening in that moment. I’m not going to try and unpack all that now, but I can tell you all, there’s not a single part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at the time. No part of me thinks that’s the optimal way to deal with a sense of disrespect or insult.”
