The avengers The MCU’s sub-franchise occupies an odd place in the larger series. While the original 2012 movie was where that first batch of movies was building and Phase One ended, the same couldn’t be said of the sequels. 2015’s Age of Ultron released halfway through the second phase, and although the duology of Infinite War and Endgame were the final chapters of what later became the “Infinity Saga”, they didn’t really close things down. That duty went to Spider-Man: Far From Home a few months afterEndgame.

But in the future, expect Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to bring future sagas – aka the new “Multiverse Saga” and whatever else awaits in the wings. Kevin Feige spoke to MTV News about what Marvel Studios looks like now avengers movies. “After Infinite War and endgame, we thought avengers movies aren’t cappers,” he admitted. But what changed the tune of the studio is the many groupings in these incoming phases: from this year Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to next year Captain Marvel and ant man continuation and the recently announced Lightning strikes movie, big team-ups help broaden the scope of the MCU and lay the groundwork for the multiverse.

avengers movies really should be the end of a saga,” Feige continued. “That’s really all we wanted to lay the foundation for today. We are currently in the midst of the Multiverse Saga, which will culminate in two avengers movies.” Both films will be released in 2025, and earlier this week it was revealed that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton would take the helm of the first of the duology, The Kang Dynasty scheduled for release in May of that year. Both it and November 2025 Secret Wars will conclude Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga as a whole.

Right now there are the seeds of a new Avengers team, with some pretty obvious candidates, and probably some unexpected wildcards just waiting to be revealed. Wait six years to get the avengers franchise back gives its returns some weight, and let’s kango to feel like a real Big Deal… well, more of a big deal than Marvel movies usually are.
