European champions Real Madrid will face Italian giants Juventus in a classic European showdown that will be played to a sold-out crowd at the Rose Bowl. More than 90,000 fans are expected to witness the preseason game.
It’s an important one for Real Madrid, as it represents the final test of the preseason before it kicks off in earnest with the UEFA Super Cup on August 10 against Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt. That will be the first trophy up for grabs in a 2022-23 season in which Los Merengues will be occupied on a number of competitive fronts as the defending Spanish and European champions.
Saturday’s showdown also marks the end of Juventus’s US summer tour. They defeated Chivas Guadalajara 2-0 and equalized Barcelona 2-2. The Bianconeri will face a third Spanish opponent, Atletico Madrid, before opening the Italian Serie A season against Sassuolo on August 15.
Real Madrid lost its US tour match against Barcelona 1-0 and then tied Mexican power Club America 2-2. Karim Benzema scored in his first appearance in the final game and Eden Hazard found the back of the net from a penalty.

Live updates Real Madrid vs. Juventus, highlights of the preseason
62nd minute: It’s a Real Madrid clinic. Karim Benzema curls the ball that was destined for the bottom left corner, but Juve’ keeper Perin saves it. Real Madrid players don’t want to get off the field. They quickly took the corner so the subs couldn’t get in.
59th minute: Everyone is competing for Real Madrid. Dani Carvajal picked a shot that saved the Juve keeper, then Toni Kroos took a shot that ended high. Real Madrid are about to make some subs.
54th minute: It’s all been Real Madrid to start the second half and they play with the same verve and inspired teamwork.
Juve’s Manuel Locatelli had to do an incredible acrobatic jump to stop an obvious opportunity, Bonucci had a miscommunication with his ‘keeper’ and Real Madrid’s David Alaba pushed all the way from the center back to shoot for goal. It hasn’t been nice for the Italian side.
46th minute: The second half is in full swing. Antonio Rudiger is in for Eder Militao. Juan Cuadrado comes in for Angel Di Maria.
Real Madrid 1, Juventus 0
Peace: Real Madrid with the deserved lead in this one. From the opening whistle, the European champions showed their intention. They are direct and vertical, and they attack in numbers, with players switching positions and combining well. When Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. being on the ball, all sorts of things happen.
And as fluid as Real Madrid is, Juventus are slow, disjointed and clueless in attack. Everything they do in the last third part mostly depends on the creativity of Angel Di Maria, who has been little today – it seems to be a low energy outing for him so far – or they depend on Dusan Vlahovic to create something for themselves. But Vlahovic has been isolated and invisible. And there is no chemistry with Moise Kean. It is the first game that Vlahovic and Di Maria will play together, but Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri has a lot of work to do.
44th minute: Dusan Vlahovic has remained anonymous, but he gets a ball in the penalty area only for Eder Militao to acrobatically recover and clear the ball for a corner. Nothing comes of it.
38th minute: Not much happens in the game, but what is clear is that Real Madrid are very dangerous when they run from the back of Juventus. Juventus do not have it so easy to make dangerous attacking moves. Things are not going as well as at Real.

27th minute: Juventus have a case for a penalty! But the referee doesn’t call it and there is no VAR. Ferland Mendy inexplicably returns the ball into his own penalty area and Angel Di Maria beats Eder Militao to the ball. It looked like a penalty. But it remains 1-0.

17th minute: Punishment for Real Madrid! After a poor giveaway from Dusan Vlahovic, Vinicius Jr grabs the ball in the penalty area and Danilo knocks it down from behind. Clear punishment.

13th minute: Juve captain Leonardo Bonucci fires a set piece in the top left corner of the goal. Wow, this game has changed. Moments later, Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria get in each other’s way in the Real Madrid penalty area. Juventus are back in this game.

11th minute: Juventus’ first serious attack and it comes as left-back Alex Sandro pushes all the way to the finish line. But the Juventus attackers cannot finish the game.
5th minute: Manuel Locatelli with a bad, bad tackle on Fede Valverde. No card shown and Real Madrid conduct an exhibition game.
The Spanish champions make an electric start. It’s another bad start to a game for Juventus (the same happened against Barcelona, with their giveaways only adding to the problems and pressure).
1st minute: The match starts. Juventus are in their black and white stripes, while Real Madrid are in their lilac kits. After 10 seconds, Real Madrid scores through Karim Benzema, but three players are offside.
