The results of the analysis have been published in the medical journal The British Journal of Nutrition confirmed that kefir, as well as yogurt, curdled milk and low-fat curd, can prevent serious cardiovascular problems. Previous research has shown that this type of food lowers excessive levels of bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, protecting against atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary artery disease and heart attack.

Scientists from the University of Eastern Finland wanted to test how fermented foods reduce heart attack risk or unstable coronary artery disease. About 2,000 men took part in the study. Their eating habits were analyzed over a 20-year period. During the experiment, 475 participants had different types of coronary events.

The study took into account both the amount of fermented milk products consumed, as well as various diet and lifestyle factors. Finnish scientists noted that the men who ate the most of the above products were 26 percent. less likely to develop heart disease than people who consume little of it.
