There was a moment during the depths of quarantine in 2020 when I convinced myself that I would really start painting. Two years later, I can’t bring myself to throw away the barely used brushes and cloths that have been shoved in the back of my closet. We’ve all experimented with different coping mechanisms during the pandemic, leading to all sorts of uncharacteristics purchases that we now regret.

Lifehacker senior health editor Beth Skwareckic shared her source of pandemic buys repentance with me: Roller skating. She says, “There was a hot minute when I thought I was going to roll dance, so of course I needed all the new skates in a different color and style.” And when I get rid of the dust that continues to collect on my roommate’s exercise bike, I feel safe and credit her experience with a hint of buyer regret.

So now I ask you, Lifehacker readers, what did you buy during the pandemic that you now deeply regret? Maybe there’s a home kombucha starter pack that you’ve been chasing in your pantry. You may be reading this from a home that felt right to buy during the peak pandemic, but was wrong for you in retrospect. And who among us has not tried to grow our own herb garden? I’m just saying I own too many mason jars and now I don’t know what to do with them.

Go ahead and take a look under your bed or in the back of your closet, then share your biggest source of pandemic-related buyer remorse with us in the comments below. Then I’ll read through your responses and wrap them up in a separate post next week. Hopefully together we can have compassion and feel a little better about our own short-sighted purchases. I know I’m not the only one who blames quarantine for a few blows to my wallet.
